Our Services

The Omowale Project helps justice-focused nonprofits, particularly those led by formerly incarcerated people, strengthen their foundations and navigate crises to ensure long-term survival. Many organizations that emerged in response to urgent social movements now face funding shortages and internal challenges that threaten their sustainability. We provide strategic guidance on restructuring, leadership endurance, and organizational adaptation, offering workforce support, leadership coaching, conflict resolution, and mediation. Our work extends to supporting mergers and transitions, ensuring that struggling organizations can evolve while maintaining their mission, values, and cultural integrity.

We advocate for policies that protect and promote well-being for families impacted by incarceration, promote reentry justice, and advance criminal legal system reforms. Our family preservation work includes the fight for full-contact visits for children of incarcerated parents and the continued implementation of the Children of Incarcerated Parents Bill of Rights, in partnership with academic institutions, elected representatives, and other allies. We also conduct participatory research with formerly incarcerated individuals to shape reentry policy solutions. By working across systems and sector lines with corrections, government, and grassroots groups, we advance policies that center impacted families and create more humane conditions in carceral settings.

The Omowale Project provides tailored training and technical assistance to nonprofits, government agencies, and system stakeholders, equipping them with the tools needed to implement effective policies and improve organizational sustainability. We offer capacity-building workshops, develop best practices for working with justice-impacted communities, and create replicable models for coalitions and collaborations, mergers, leadership transitions, and restructuring. Our approach ensures that organizations are prepared to navigate challenges, measure impact effectively, and build lasting movements that drive meaningful change.
